The 2019 New Mexico Damage Prevention Summit hosted by the New Mexico Regional Common Ground Alliance (NMRCGA) was held at the Isleta Resort in Albuquerque on October 22 -24.
Exhibitors and attendees alike pronounced the event to be the best conference yet. The exhibit hall was full and buzzing with excitement as new products and services were introduced to the at-tendees. Attendees filled the sessions and workshops throughout the event. The Shovelman 811 Balloon (front cover) made an appearance at the conference and created quite a bit of excitement. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive in regard to venue and content.
There was a 27% increase in attendance in 2019 as compared to the previous NMRCGA conference. Already, sponsors are signing up to promote the 2020 Summit. The goal is to make this an annual event focusing on statewide damage prevention. It begins and ends with finding ways to network with likeminded stakeholders with different perspectives bonded by the common goal of protect-ing underground utility lines. It is about mutual trust and respect. It’s really about learning what it’s like to be the opposite of you. How can I understand the impact my actions have on you, if you don’t tell me?
The Damage Prevention Summit is an annual regional CGA partner event. The Summit is unique in that it brings stakeholders together so that if you’re really looking for better ways to work togeth-er…you’ll probably find them. Stakeholders typically represented are local elected officials, regula-tory personnel, one call staff, excavators, locators and utility owner/operators. The utility types generally represented at the Summit are gas, electric, phone, cable TV, water and wastewater.
